Tourism Chic-Street Style India

Tourism chic has emerged as one of the biggest trends as far the recent european fashion weeks are concerned. Seems like ‘being unfashionable’ is the latest style on the runway. Whether it’s the classic khakis, colorful hawaiian shirts teamed up with flip flops or the casual travel ready look, the fashion inspiration for most of the recent  spring/summer 18 catwalk shows especially in menwear seems like inspired by this new trend.

I have been photographing tourists on the streets of Rajasthan for quite some time now as I find the clothes they put up as interesting & sometimes extremely stylish. More or less this style is definitely a stand-out one. So here are some of the trends I spotted on the local streets of Jaipur & Pushkar.

Photographs by Abhimanyu Singh Rathore.

The loose fitted Hawaiian shirts are very common among tourists visiting India especially Rajasthan.
Bohemian Bag-jhola-street style india-colors
For an effortless bohemian look this local street bag is must. Also it allows you to carry so much of stuff while travelling, so it makes sense.

Style Diaries-Madame Hall

Lisa Hall is the name behind the bespoke quirky label ‘Madame Hall’ whose collection was showcased this year at Lakme Fashion Week. It was her personal instagram account which inspired me to do this photo story. I don’t really adhere the conventional idea of fashion where it changes with seasons as I feel it should be more about self-expression & how you feel rather than what people think. Lisa’s idea of fashion & style is also kind of similar as she’s not into following regular trends but always curious to create what she feels like.  Her choice of colors, patterns, prints & materials is truly one of a kind just like her personal story. Lisa is from Sydney, Australia & now she is living in Bhuj from past 5 years as she fell in love with the textiles & embroideries of Kutch. Unlike other western designers who travel to India in search of inspiration & fabrics, Lisa is here to stay.

For this photo story I wanted to shoot in the streets of Bhuj using the old broken doors & rust like backdrops of Aina Mahal which is very close to Lisa’s design studio made a perfect backdrop for shooting her colorful bohemian clothes. Lisa curated & styled each look for this story. She has fabulous eye for details & penchant for traditional gujarati jewels which beautifully blends with her designs. Lisa always happily poses wearing her designs & her instagram account is full of that, visual treat for all boho lovers.

Best of Street Style-Jaipur Literature Festival 2017

It was 10th anniversary of the most awaited event of the year i.e. Jaipur Literature Festival 2017. This was my 5th year at JLF & I was very much excited, I was literally preparing for it for a week to be precise. The Lit fest plays a silent role in staging street fashion of people from around the globe & a great platform to exchange ideas with people from all walks of life. This year as I was shooting photo stories for various publications, that allowed me to meet like minded folks & to know a bit about them.

So here are my top 10 picks of best of street style at Zee Jlf. Please comment below & let me know your thoughts about this photo story.

Street Style India-Sunglasses

There is something undeniably unique about sunglasses. Statement sunglasses are the new street style favorite among New Delhi fashionistas. This season seems to be all about going bold & trying out unconventional combinations. Strong , eccentric & assertive are the words which completely defines these stylish folks I captured at Amazon India Fashion Week 16. So here is small photo essay on people with their sunglasses fetish at the fashion week.

Photo essay-The New Indian Men

What I notice in terms of indian men’s fashion is how dramatic it has became over the past two years. Love how designers are pushing the boundaries whether it is about the new tones of colors, model castings for runway or innovative styling ideas. Something really interesting is happening on the runway & streets of India. Whether it is the new & young breed of indian designers in men’s clothing or models with strong personalities on the catwalk, menswear is definitely shaping into something unique & stylish, like never before. So here is a small photo essay compiling the pictures I took at the major fashion weeks of India as well as the fashion on the streets in last two years which visually defines how menswear has witnessed a drastic change. I feel it is the new era. Don’t you? Please mention your unfiltered thoughts on the comment section below.

Men in distress. Designer Arjun Saluja completely shocked me with this presentation, I was happy that I was able to capture the models so closely, it was kind of an exhibition which gave media a closer look at the clothes & details. Also the casting for this show was done artistically as every model looked poles apart from each other with individual personalities & at the same time all in distress.

Dhruv Vaish‘s new collection at Lakme Fashion Week was definitely breathe of fresh air as he provided multiple options for men, love the colors, cuts & layering.

Whether it was print on print or the high waisted dhoti pants, it was hard to ignore this collection which was subtle as well as unique at the same time.

When it comes to mixing tradition, culture & fashion, Ashish, Viral & Vikrant always impresses with their distinctive take on style & fashion. Yes!! gone are the days when the occasional wear fo men was made in just 5 to 6 metres of fabric, the creations above show how grand Men’s fashion can be when it is about India.

People say every men is donning beard these days, umm maybe but look at these two men so different & stylish. Pranav Guglani (left) of Cord.in was seen wearing interesting optical art shirt paired up with all pastels while in Mumbai, blogger Al Claudius (right) was seen beating the summer heat in designer Manish Bansal‘s T-shirt, so if you think men can’t carry bling, than you might have to reconsider your statement.
