Photo essay-The New Indian Men

What I notice in terms of indian men’s fashion is how dramatic it has became over the past two years. Love how designers are pushing the boundaries whether it is about the new tones of colors, model castings for runway or innovative styling ideas. Something really interesting is happening on the runway & streets of India. Whether it is the new & young breed of indian designers in men’s clothing or models with strong personalities on the catwalk, menswear is definitely shaping into something unique & stylish, like never before. So here is a small photo essay compiling the pictures I took at the major fashion weeks of India as well as the fashion on the streets in last two years which visually defines how menswear has witnessed a drastic change. I feel it is the new era. Don’t you? Please mention your unfiltered thoughts on the comment section below.

Television star Vishal Singh (left) & model Rinku Pahel in designer Sourabh Kant Srivastava‘s ensemble.
Men in distress. Designer Arjun Saluja completely shocked me with this presentation, I was happy that I was able to capture the models so closely, it was kind of an exhibition which gave media a closer look at the clothes & details. Also the casting for this show was done artistically as every model looked poles apart from each other with individual personalities & at the same time all in distress.
Dhruv Vaish‘s new collection at Lakme Fashion Week was definitely breathe of fresh air as he provided multiple options for men, love the colors, cuts & layering.
Whether it was print on print or the high waisted dhoti pants, it was hard to ignore this collection which was subtle as well as unique at the same time.
Withe the recent years all I see is a blast of colors whether on the runway or on the streets.Model Danish in Wendell Rodricks‘s creation.(right)

Dreadlocks as seen on the streets & on Nor Black Nor White catwalk show at Lakme Fashion Week.
This was by far one of my favorite show at this season of Lakme Fashion Week. Look at the models castings for this show, which includes people of all body types & more importantly  so different from each other.
Modern cuts, futuristic tones & sensational vibes at Huemn by Pranv Misra & Shyma Shetty.

Men donning fake eyelashes & dramatic head gears, designer Shilpa Chavan definitely broke the gender barriers. Also you can notice a hint of feminine floral lace in the headgear.
I won’t call this androgyny, as men in kilt is very manly (check the great history of this iconic piece which stretches to 16th century). Supermodel Namit Khanna in Manish Bansal‘s Summer/Resort 15 collection at Lakme Fashion Week.
When it comes to mixing tradition, culture & fashion, Ashish, Viral & Vikrant always impresses with their distinctive take on style & fashion. Yes!! gone are the days when the occasional wear fo men was made in just 5 to 6 metres of fabric, the creations above show how grand Men’s fashion can be when it is about India.
Fashion industry’s two biggest maestros Rajesh Pratap Singh (left) & Rohit Bal (right) believes in breaking the boundaries in terms of men’s clothing.

Prominent new faces on the runway as seen in last two years were Saud Khan & Saagar Gera. Designer-Divyam Mehta
People say every men is donning beard these days, umm maybe but look at these two men so different & stylish. Pranav Guglani (left) of was seen wearing interesting optical art shirt paired up with all pastels while in Mumbai, blogger Al Claudius (right) was seen beating the summer heat in designer Manish Bansal‘s T-shirt, so if you think men can’t carry bling, than you might have to reconsider your statement.
All braided. Model Saagar Gera breaking the style rules at Divyam Mehta show.

The new dapper? Casting of models for the runway has also changed a lot in recent times. Model Amit Ranjan in Rohit Kamra‘s show with long hair & beard.
Another game changer in menswear, designer Ujjawal Dubey creates relaxed as well as unique clothing for men.
Gothic men at Rohit Bal‘s show. Rohit Bal always breaking the gender roles, remember the male models donning sindoor years ago?
From the top if you see, one can easily imagine that the shoes are going to be some formal brogues but the it is a relaxed version of suits which is paired with dramatic flats. Model Jitesh in creation by Ashish N Soni.
Dots & pom pom. Just love it!
Purple florals for men. Himanshu Bhasin in Siddhartha Tytler‘s creation for AIFW S/S 2016.
Wear the art. Model in designer AartiVijay Gupta‘s outfit.
Men in powder tones, creations by Jaipur based designer Gazal Mishra. Shot at season 1 of IISW. Model Dushyat Katewa with Jatin Khirbat.
Sartorial splendor of colors & prints. New Concept of Beauty at 11.11 Cell DSGN show

Runway shows are no longer just about models sashaying down the runway & posing expressionlessly. At least the current group of young designers are breaking the norms & utilizing those 5-10 mins of show time to not only showcase the clothes but also to set the aura & mood according to their theme/inspiration. At recently happened Lakme Fashion Week Summer/Resort 16 the pret label 11.11 by designer Shani Himanshu & Mia Morikawa re-introduced the concept of beauty with their latest collection. It was backstage themed show, models were styled in out the bed look with loose clothes & some with puffy eyes. Instead of posing on the head ramp models were reading inspirational quotes, model Kanishtha Dhankar, Alice Rosario & actress Sarah Jane Dias impressed everyone with their stay strong speeches & effortless performances. I enjoyed capturing the ‘in process’ concept of beauty & would definitely love to see more fabulous shows like this in future.o
