Tourism Chic-Street Style India

Tourism chic has emerged as one of the biggest trends as far the recent european fashion weeks are concerned. Seems like ‘being unfashionable’ is the latest style on the runway. Whether it’s the classic khakis, colorful hawaiian shirts teamed up with flip flops or the casual travel ready look, the fashion inspiration for most of the recent  spring/summer 18 catwalk shows especially in menwear seems like inspired by this new trend.

I have been photographing tourists on the streets of Rajasthan for quite some time now as I find the clothes they put up as interesting & sometimes extremely stylish. More or less this style is definitely a stand-out one. So here are some of the trends I spotted on the local streets of Jaipur & Pushkar.

The loose fitted Hawaiian shirts are very common among tourists visiting India especially Rajasthan.

For an effortless bohemian look this local street bag is must. Also it allows you to carry so much of stuff while travelling, so it makes sense.

Beat the heat with these statement pairs of sunglasses.

Laid back is the new cool?

Messy hair.

This look is definitely not for the faint-hearted.

When east meets west, the style magic happens instantly.

That face!

The common accessories spotted on the streets of Rajasthan, includes hats & scarves for women & stack bracelets for men.

Reminds me of “Jis Desh Mein Ganga Rehta Hai”.

The power of color indigo, as it gets mixed with any style without making it visually loud.

For an instant standout look, opt for kitschy colorful skirts which are easily available on the local streets of Jaipur.

The classic T-shirt with shorts look is still very common on the streets.

Style Diaries-Madame Hall

Lisa Hall is the name behind the bespoke quirky label ‘Madame Hall’ whose collection was showcased this year at Lakme Fashion Week. It was her personal instagram account which inspired me to do this photo story. I don’t really adhere the conventional idea of fashion where it changes with seasons as I feel it should be more about self-expression & how you feel rather than what people think. Lisa’s idea of fashion & style is also kind of similar as she’s not into following regular trends but always curious to create what she feels like.  Her choice of colors, patterns, prints & materials is truly one of a kind just like her personal story. Lisa is from Sydney, Australia & now she is living in Bhuj from past 5 years as she fell in love with the textiles & embroideries of Kutch. Unlike other western designers who travel to India in search of inspiration & fabrics, Lisa is here to stay.

For this photo story I wanted to shoot in the streets of Bhuj using the old broken doors & rust like backdrops of Aina Mahal which is very close to Lisa’s design studio made a perfect backdrop for shooting her colorful bohemian clothes. Lisa curated & styled each look for this story. She has fabulous eye for details & penchant for traditional gujarati jewels which beautifully blends with her designs. Lisa always happily poses wearing her designs & her instagram account is full of that, visual treat for all boho lovers.

Best of Street Style-Jaipur Literature Festival 2017

It was 10th anniversary of the most awaited event of the year i.e. Jaipur Literature Festival 2017. This was my 5th year at JLF & I was very much excited, I was literally preparing for it for a week to be precise. The Lit fest plays a silent role in staging street fashion of people from around the globe & a great platform to exchange ideas with people from all walks of life. This year as I was shooting photo stories for various publications, that allowed me to meet like minded folks & to know a bit about them.

Hippie Vibes- Pushkar Fair 2015

 

Want to live the 60s hippie culture now? Pushkar city of Rajasthan is the right place to re-live the 60s youth movement. From people in dreadlocks to tie-dye T-shirts you will find it all here. Special recommendation to visit the city during Pushkar Fair which generally happens in the month of November(this year the dates are 8th Nov to 15th Nov 2016).

This street Style photo story is about the tourists I captured in candid moments at Pushkar Fair 2015.

I discovered a whole new culture out there which was young, free & full of madness.

Printed headbands & nose rings.

How beautifully this women has put together lace & florals & those dreadlocks are adding so much character to her look.

Images of indian gods & goddesses are very common on T-shirts in the market of Pushkar.

Those printed bohemian skirts looks so cool with oversized kitschy bags.

At the end all I can say is I LOVE PUSHKAR & would love to spend more time in this city whenever I re-visit it.
