Backstage-Rainbow Show-LMIFW SS 19

What a grand ending for Lotus Makeup India Fashion week spring/summer 19. More than 40 designers came together to celebrate love, colour and the historic section 377 judgement of 2018. The backstage was no less than colourful pride parade. I feel extremely lucky to witness and capture these beautiful moments at backstage and sharing all of these with you guys.

Backstage-The Hottest Male Model Portraits

Since Rajasthan Heritage Week 2016 was full of crafts & celebrating the handmade in Rajasthan, the day 2 of the fashion week seems to be entirely dedicated to the handcrafted indian saree. The fashion week overall was high on womenswear but what grabbed the attention of the female attendees majorly were the handsome indian male models donning the 6 yards of grace (saree) with lot of panache & confidence. It was interesting to see how handcrafted sarees by the national awarded weavers were draped on male models, taking inspiration from ancient indian saree drapes.Talk about sarees as stole or sarees with denims, it included all the major possible experiments with 6 yards of fabric but on a male model body this time . So here is a small black & white photo essay celebrating the beauty of indian men in saree, which is very rare & completely deserves the attention.

Backstage-IISW-Jaipur

Pink city Jaipur witnessed another fashion extravaganza, this time it was India International Style Week (IISW) . The show was graced by Bollywood celebrities like Soha Ali Khan, Mandana Karimi & Nusrat Bharucha as showstoppers. The designers showcased their spring/summer line for the first season of IISW, city’s very own designer Gazal Mishra opened the show in neat silhouettes using vegetable dye mixed with kantha stitch. While designer Ken Ferns showcased his beach wear collection (which I will share in the next post) designer Shivina Agnani displayed the red carpet glamour & designer Akash Chaudhary presented his menswear line. Ace models from Delhi & Mumbai like Pooja Bimrah, Jitesh Thakur, Hida Siddhiqui, Jyotpriya Sud to name a few participated & increased the much needed glamour quotient of the event. The ornate show was choreographed by Lokesh Sharma who is also the show director (this time used a lot of grovy music on the runway).

I like always had fun time shooting at my favorite place-Backstage. Like I always say the real fun is backstage & I madly love the behind the scenes chaos at the fashion week( I also had an awkward moment ‘Bhaiyaji meri bhi photo lena’ which every fashion photographer hates, fashion blogging is an age old concept now but it seems it is still very new & developing atleast in Jaipur). Surprisingly the models were very cooperative as my photo essay was kinda invading their privacy, some of them refused & some agreed but overall it was a fabulous experience as I went home with some good clicks.

So this time presenting the show from the other angle & to let my viewers/readers to know (a little) about the glamorous & hectic lives of indian fashion models at the fashion week through this photo essay.

New Concept of Beauty at 11.11 Cell DSGN show

Runway shows are no longer just about models sashaying down the runway & posing expressionlessly. At least the current group of young designers are breaking the norms & utilizing those 5-10 mins of show time to not only showcase the clothes but also to set the aura & mood according to their theme/inspiration. At recently happened Lakme Fashion Week Summer/Resort 16 the pret label 11.11 by designer Shani Himanshu & Mia Morikawa re-introduced the concept of beauty with their latest collection. It was backstage themed show, models were styled in out the bed look with loose clothes & some with puffy eyes. Instead of posing on the head ramp models were reading inspirational quotes, model Kanishtha Dhankar, Alice Rosario & actress Sarah Jane Dias impressed everyone with their stay strong speeches & effortless performances. I enjoyed capturing the ‘in process’ concept of beauty & would definitely love to see more fabulous shows like this in future.o

Photo Essay-Backstage-Dhruv Kapoor

Shooting backstage is always fun, it is the main process room where models are getting dressed up & all not so fashionable things happen. Everybody is running here & there, make up artists are working on giving touch ups at the same time designers/stylists are giving the final touch to the collection, before the models go for catwalk. So I had a great opportunity of shooting backstage for Vogue India Fashion Fund winner Dhruv Kapoor’s Autumn/Winter 16 collection at recently happened Amazon India Fashion Week in New Delhi. The collection was blend of sports-luxe which is also his signature style (Remember the jumpers with  slogans ‘Cool’ & ‘India’ on Deepika Padukone & Ranveer Singh respectively in Vogue India) mixed with evening wear details. Fur with exaggerated sleeves, unfinished hems, buckle straps, sequins & combat boots were the main highlights of the collection.

There were ace photographers like Mehtaab Mann, Manasi Sawant of Elle India & Jimmy Granger shooting the backstage portraits & beauty shots with humongous equipments, directing the models confidently for the perfect shot. I was very much fascinated by seeing top models like Lakshmi Rana, Sony Kaur & Smita Lasrado to name a few posing for the camera backstage. I wanted to capture the ongoing backstage madness so this photo essay focuses on the action going on behind the scenes-making of a successful fashion show.

Backstage-Rajasthan Heritage Week-Part 1

Backstage-the place where the real fun lies. It’s fun to take photographs of models at backstage. This is the place where models are getting ready,chit-chatting with each other, some are relaxing & some are busy with their phones. Having a backstage access is like a dream for a photographer to witness & capture a world full of beauty & fashion. So I was there backstage shooting the creavite process, behind the scenes of Rajasthan Heritage Week, and I loved every moment (more than taking photos of the fashion show in the media pit). Sharing a glimpse of what really happens at backstage through this photo essay.
